Bucharest, 2017
The Twelve Queens is a project created in 2017 for the Regina Maria Private Healthcare Network. The project consisted of designing a calendar for the year 2018, in which I illustrated twelve queens, each representing one month of the year.
In creating these characters, I drew inspiration from the graceful image of Queen Marie of Romania, often depicted wearing traditional Romanian attire. Thus, the figures almost hieratic in nature are ennobled by the traditional costume and the presence of flowers, symbols of both the ephemeral beauty of being and the cyclical nature of life.
The radiant, regal gold transforms these feminine figures into queens who embody peace, beauty, and love. I attribute this noble essence filled with light, purity, and grace to Queen Marie herself.
